Ks. Gundula Janowitz
Ks. Brigitte Fassbaender
Once Karl Böhm’s and Herbert von Karajan’s favourite soprano, Gundula Janowitz was famed as the ideal interpreter of Mozart and Strauss, and as the most luxurious casting for Prima Donna roles. She fascinated the public as the Countess and Donna Anna, as Arabella, Ariadne, the Empress and the Marschallin. Her unmistakable voice was radiant and lustrous. She breathed life into her many roles with her stage presence, thereby writing operatic history.
The great Strauss singer was also a consummate Lied interpreter, and due to her vocal purity, deep sensitivity and subtle phrasing could achieve a harmonious entity. Her recording of the Four Last Songs under von Karajan remains a milestone in the recording annals.
Brigitte Fassbaender invites her great colleague to a relaxed afternoon chat, and we can greatly look forward to eavesdropping in on their charming and witty reminiscences.
