An Odd Bird

Welcome to the 2013 Richard Strauss Festival!(c) Elmar Harb

Yes, “Richard the ostrich” was a pretty funny guy sometimes! That's why we went looking for humour in Strauss as the main theme for this year - and we found it, too. Be enchanted by the piquant and sophisticated humour of this energetic Bavarian, whose fine sense of wit and irony is reflected in many of his compositions, particularly Ariadne auf Naxos, which you can experience in a performance by the Vienna State Opera. Ariadne owes its creation to the congenial collaboration between Hofmannsthal and Strauss and is a work which will keep you amused!

Enjoy a June week full of joviality; enjoy the "odd bird" Richard Strauss!
